Agathon Showcases 28 Student Writers And Artists

Upper and middle school writers and artists participated in the Agathon Showcase on Friday, April 29. For the first time in two years, students gathered to enjoy poems and creative nonfiction while viewing a rotating gallery of student artwork.
In addition to the Agathon Showcase, April is National Poetry Month. Friday, April 29th, is also the 20 anniversary of Poem In Your Pocket Day, a national celebration that encourages people to share poetry, carry a poem with them throughout the day and post videos of themselves reading their poem on social media with the hashtag #pocketpoem.

Everyone leaving Friday's showcase received their own 'pocket poem' to carry throughout the day. Barstow students, faculty and staff who used the hashtag #barstowagathon when posting videos of themselves reading their poems were featured on the Agathon's website or on their Instagram page.

The Agathon will be undergoing a makeover next year and reformatting the website. Student representatives from 9-12th grade are needed to help with layout, photography, editorial and marketing materials. Art and English Department student liaisons are also needed, as well as lower, middle and upper school content editors.

Agathon promotes student accomplishments in all the creative arts, including spoken word, musical performance, filmmaking, scriptwriting, etc. Students taking creative writing will have the opportunity to work as senior editors and spend class time building the Agathon website and contributing content.

Anyone interested in submitting to the Agathon should email their work to agathon@barstowschool.org.
