The Barstow School of Ghana Welcomes Students on Opening Day
The Barstow School of Ghana is officially open for the 2022 school year. The school, which blends American and Ghana Education Service curriculum, welcomed its inaugural group of students to the Accra campus on Tuesday, Jan. 11.
Seventy-four students from crèche to grade 7 are enrolled at the newest school in Barstow's international network of campuses. The Barstow School of Ghana plans to enroll students through senior high school in the coming months.
The Barstow School was founded in America in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1884. Around the world, Barstow is known as an innovative leader in education, offering rigorous college-preparatory academics and hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, the arts and math (STEAM). Each year, Barstow graduates are accepted at the top universities in America, as well as international schools.
President of The Barstow Schools Shane Foster traveled to Accra for the first day of school. Accompanied by Anis Haffar, a trustee of the Ghana campus, Mr. Foster welcomed families to their new school community. He also met with faculty members and school leadership, interviewed with local journalists and presented The Barstow School's programs and educational philosophy to an audience at the Accra College of Medicine.
"It is no surprise that children who are engaged, nurtured, loved and guided in schools thrive," Mr. Foster said. "Small classes enable teachers to fully engage with their students and allow them to become active participants in their learning."
The Barstow School of Ghana in Accra is part of a network of global schools that include the Barstow Kansas City campus, and campuses in Ningbo, Cixi and Nanchung, China, plus Barstow Global Online and the Dan & Cassidy Towriss IDEA Space KC, set to open in Leawood, Kansas, this summer.
